Discussion on the topic of illegal trafficking and illegal trade in cultural property for terrorist purposes

30.08.2022

On 7 September 2022, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) will convene a roundtable discussion on the traffic and illicit trade of cultural property for terrorist purposes.

The roundtable will bring together experts in the field of cultural heritage protection and investigation of trafficking in cultural property from the UN system, civil society and academia to elaborate on the nature, scope and any discernible trend currently defining the terrorist dimension of the phenomenon.

The discussion intends to foster greater understanding and more substantive engagement on the issue, in line with UN Security Council resolution 2617 (2021), which encourages CTED to raise awareness of the importance of Member States cooperation in addressing different aspects of the illicit trade of cultural property.

CTED will be joined by a representative of the Permanent Mission of Italy to the UN in delivering opening remarks to the event.
